CORRECT OPERATION
Air cleaners have no moving parts that require regular maintenance. However, many are equipped with a heated air intake damper valve. You can observe the damper valve on a heated air intake system with a hand mirror while the engine is operating. Place the mirror at the air cleaner opening with the engine idling. The damper valve should be closed if the engine is cold, which means the air cleaner is admitting only preheated air from the heat stove duct. As the engine warms up, the valve should open. If the valve does not operate, lubricate it lightly. If the valve still does not work, the vacuum motor or air temperature sensor must be replaced.
